Gordon Elliot

Bio: Gordon Elliot is a national hunt trainer based at County Meath. He got into racing early by working with Tony Martin during weekends while still at school. This early dedication changed to full time once he’s left school and an amateur license came at just 16, speaking to Elliot’s enthusiasm for racing.

The wins didn’t take long to come either, two at Cheltenham, The Champion Bumper, wins abroad. The list goes on, but after retiring in 2005 and becoming a horse trainer, that’s when the real winning started.

In 2007, just two year’s after retiring from being a jockey, Gordon Elliot had won the Aintree Grand National with 33-1 shot Silver Birch. The ‘pinch me and wake me up’ moment was added to by fact that he was the youngest ever trainer to win this jewel in the crown of racing.  Though a national hunt specialist he’s also experienced success over the flat, winning the Ebor Handicap with Dirar in 2010.

Success breeds success, and in 2016 Elliot gained his first Cheltenham Gold Cup win with Don Cossack. He’s had tremendous performances at the Cheltenham Festival as a whole in recent years, with 40 winners at the Festival as of 2024. He achieved back to back winners in the Stayers Hurdle with Sire Du Berlais (2023) and Teahupoo (2024).

Mullins and Elliot went head to head in the 2018 Grand National, where Elliot’s horse Tiger Roll just edged out Mullin’s horse Pleasant Company, earning him his second Aintree Grand National win.

Since gaining a horse trainer’s licence in 2006, Gordon Elliot’s winnings in racing total more than €50m in Britain and Ireland.

Kim Bailey

Bio:  Having started his career in jumps yards of Captain Tim Forster and Fred Rimell, Kim Bailey has trained out of Thorndale Farm, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire since 2006. He’s  an accomplished national hunt trainer having trained a staggering 1200+ winners.  he went it alone

It could be argued that he’s won just about all their is to win, a point brought home by fact that he’s the only trainer to have won The Grand National, Cheltenham Gold Cup & Champion Hurdle. On top of that he’s won on every UK national hunt racecourse. In short, he’s been there, done that, and got the t-shirt.

His Grand National winner was Mr Frisk in 1990, a horse he says initially ‘wasn’t very fast or very good’, until his ability over fast ground was ascertained. The Champion Hurdle winner was Alderbrook “I’ve never seen a horse go over hurdles so fast” said Bailey. His Cheltenham Gold Cup winner was Master Oats in 1995. Of Master Oats,  Bailey said “He used to stand there at the end of a race with his head on the ground, absolutely knackered because he’d given everything… He was an extraordinary horse”.

Martin Keighley

Bio: West Yorkshire born, Martin Keighley has been interested in racing from a young age, and being gifted the opportunity of rides under David Nicholson, this solidified his love for the sport. The opportunity to work with Barton Bank and other top horses proved to be a valuable education.  Keighley then decided to ride for Nigel Twiston-Davies winning the Champion Bumper at Aintree on Kings Road.

Moving from jockey to trainer on account of injury and not getting the rides, seemed like a natural shift and after a time at Cheltenham Racecourse, Martin and Belinda launched Condicote Stables a decade ago. Since that time they’ve had no shortage of success. His first Grade One winner came in late 2013 when 12-1 Annacotty won Kempton’s Kauto Star (Feltham) Novice Chase, he’s also experienced royal and Cheltenham Festival successes over the years.

With his family background not being linked to racing (his father was a fireman and mother a hairdresser), there is an everyman quality to Keighley and their stable, the feeling that they made it on their own. It’s hard not to root for  someone like Keighley.
