Tim Easterby

Bio: Tim Easterby is a horse trainer based in North Yorkshire. He has racing in his blood, since his Father Peter Easterby was a three time Champion Trainer, training Alverton the winner of Cheltenham Gold Cup as well as Night Nurse, twice winner of the Champion Hurdle. At age 34 Tim took over the Habton Grange stables from his Father.

Tim Easterby has had success in his own right since then, with Group one wins with the likes of Pipalong and Somnus, as well as a Classic win when Bollin Eric won the St Leger.

Andrew Balding

Bio: Andrew Balding certainly had a leg up in racing, since his Father was none other than Ian Balding, trainer of the legendary Mill Reef (winner of the Derby, Coral-Eclipse, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe all in one year). If that’s not enough his nephew is Toby Balding. Racing success runs through this family.

After taking over the licence at Park House stables at Kingsclere, near Newbury, Berkshire, it wasn’t long before Andrew was successful in his own right with a memorable Oaks win by Casual Look. Since that time many of his most noteable wins have come from abroad with Phoenix Reach winning the Canadian International at Woodbine, Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin and the Dubai Sheema Classic at Nad Al Sheba in a three year period. This trend continued with Side Glance winning the Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington, Australia in 2013.

More recently, Balding has enjoyed some of the most successful seasons of his career. He has consistently posted high winner totals both domestically and internationally, while adding major Group 1 successes to his résumé. The likes of Kameko, who won the 2,000 Guineas, and Alcohol Free, a multiple Group 1-winning filly, have underlined the depth of his Kingsclere operation. By the mid-2020s he has become a regular challenger in the British trainers’ championship, with Park House Stables continuing to produce elite performers across all distances and age groups.

Mark Johnston

Bio: Mark Johnston has the distinction of being the most successful trainer, numerically, in the history of British horse racing. In August 2018, the victory of Poet’s Society in the Clipper Logistics Handicap at York took his career total to 4,194, surpassing the previous figure achieved by Richard Hannon Snr., who retired in 2003.

Born in Glasgow, Johnston initially qualified in, and practised, veterinary medicine before embarking on his training career in 1987. He sent out his first winner, Hinari Video, at Carlisle in July that year from his original base at Bank End Stables in North Somercotes, near Louth, Lincolnshire. The following year he bought his current base, Kingsley Park, a 270-acre yard in Middleham, near Leyburn, North Yorkshire and has never really looked back. At the time of writing, he has saddled 20 Group 1 winners, including two British Classic winners – Mister Baileys in the 2,000 Guineas in 1994 and Attraction in the 1,000 Guineas in 2004 – and no fewer than 43 winners at Royal Ascot.

Collectively, his career victories have earned in excess of £53 million in prize money. Interestingly, Johnston names Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt of 2004, Shamardal, whom he saddled to win three races, including the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, as the best horse he has ever trained.

On 29th October 2019 Mark Johnston broke the record for the most British Flat racing winners in a year, reaching 236 wins with the help of 8-1 shot Bavardages.

Gary Moore

Bio: Starting his career in racing as  a very talented national hunt jockey (with 200+ wins), Gary Moore has gone on to have tremendous success as a horse trainer too.

Moore started his training career with five years in Epsom before taking over from his Father at Ingleside Racing Stables, Brighton, where there are facilities for stabling 100+ horses.

Known for his success in big handicap hurdles, Moore has an eye for talent and has trained some exceptional horses over the years. De Grugy was certainly won of these, eating up grade one races like hot dinners ( Tingle Creek Chase twice, Clarence House Chase, Queen Mother Champion Chase,  Celebration Chase – twice!). Fontwell and Plumpton are two tracks Moore does exceptionally well at. Moore is known to be a real, down to earth personality of the sport.
