Kim Bailey
Bio: Having started his career in jumps yards of Captain Tim Forster and Fred Rimell, Kim Bailey has trained out of Thorndale Farm, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire since 2006. He’s an accomplished national hunt trainer having trained a staggering 1200+ winners. he went it alone
It could be argued that he’s won just about all their is to win, a point brought home by fact that he’s the only trainer to have won The Grand National, Cheltenham Gold Cup & Champion Hurdle. On top of that he’s won on every UK national hunt racecourse. In short, he’s been there, done that, and got the t-shirt.
His Grand National winner was Mr Frisk in 1990, a horse he says initially ‘wasn’t very fast or very good’, until his ability over fast ground was ascertained. The Champion Hurdle winner was Alderbrook “I’ve never seen a horse go over hurdles so fast” said Bailey. His Cheltenham Gold Cup winner was Master Oats in 1995. Of Master Oats, Bailey said “He used to stand there at the end of a race with his head on the ground, absolutely knackered because he’d given everything… He was an extraordinary horse”.
