David O’Meara

Bio: In a route familiar to many in racing, David O’Meara was first a jockey – a jump jockey in this case – before beginning a training career (in 2010). This transition proved to be  a wise decision and since that time he’s amassed over 100 wins in just three seasons.

O’Meara isn’t going for low hanging fruit either, in fact he’s known for quality rather than quality. Proof of this comes from his 9 group race wins in 2015 alone (group at group one), Amazing Mariabeing one of them.

A move to Willow Farm, York the following year saw further success and the ‘hall of fame’ on his website lists some of the highlights, such as Mondialiste (winner of group 1 and group 3 races) and Group one winner G Force.

Jamie Snowden

Bio: If tragectory is anything to go by national hunt trainer Jamie Snowden is going places. The 2017/2018 season has proved to be his most successful to date with 25 winners and a cool £200,00 in prize money. The number of second places too (37), suggests that there is yet more to come from Snowden.

Based at Folly House in Lambourn Snowden takes a measured approach to training, and one of his biggest successes is surely Present View in the Close Brothers Novice Chase in 2014’sas Cheltenham Festival. All trainbers want to stamp their mark at a big racing festival and Snowden is no different. With a successful season behind him, many wonder what the next season will have in store for Jamie Snowden.

Micky Hammond

Bio: Micky Hammond is a horse trainer that’s walked a similar path to many, in that he started his involvement in horse racing as a jockey – one of the top jump jockeys of the 80s in fact. He then took this knowledge and applied it to his specific brand of horse training.

Hammond didn’t grow up in a racing environment and so is effcetivelt what you might call ‘self made’. There was no Father or sibling in the business to lean on. Early on in his career he went to work for Hugh O’Neill at Coldharbour as a conditional jockey. 70 winners in three seasons certainly impressed but an injury hampered his jockeying career.

Hammond become a stable lad with George Moore where he got back to riding, winning the Scottish National on Hardy Lad at Ayr, amongst others. All was going swimmingly but another injury essentially meant that his jockeying career was coming to an end.

Hammond’s training career started in 1990. “I had a lot of confidence, and I expected success,” he recalls. 32 wins followed in the first year, 38 in the second and 51 in the third. Owners gravitates towards him as did top equine talent such as Hedgehunter and Ballabriggs. 2015 was an especially successful year for Hammond with numerous winners such as Auldthunder, Verko and Caraline. Some near misses have on occasion taken the shine off of what could’ve been career defininf wins, but the future nevertheless looks very bright for Micky Hammond.
