Bio:  Harrow educated William Haggas is a thoroughbred horse trainer located at Somerville Lodge Stables in Newmarket.  As with many involved in racing there’s a family connection to racing greatness, and Haggas is no different, as he’s the son-in-law of one other than Lester Piggott.

An early career in a family textiles business beckoned, but Haggas followed his passion and learned the ropes under Mark Prescott.  The rest is history.  He’s had a Derby winner in Shaamit (1996)  and Dancing Rain won The Oaks (2011). He’s trained a winner for the Queen (Purple Spectrum) and has an eye for international races too, with winners in the Hong Kong Derby, Topkapi Trophy and German 2000 Guineas.

Few have achieved as much in the sport of horse racing as John Gosden. Being appointed an OBE for services to racing should tell you that from the get go. Gosden has trained over 3000 winners in his career including wins in races such as the Derby, the King George, and the Breeders Cup – a leg in the Grand Slam of thoroughbred racing. He’s experienced much success stateside and as such his net worth is thought to be £2-3 million.

Having graduated from Cambridge University in his younger years he went to study under accomplished trainers Vincent O’Brien and Sir Noel Murless. Working with them brought much success at the time, including the aforementioned Derby win, as well as a win in the St Leger Stakes. His success in the states can be put down to a move to California where he trained under Tommy Doyle, where he went on to claim wins in the likes of Santa Anita Handicap and later the Breeder’s Cup Mile.

Further moves followed, and success followed with it, to Newcastle where Gosden struck up a successful partnership with Frankie Dettori, to Manton where he won the 1000 Guineas Stakes with Lahan amongst other big name races. He’s currently at Clarehaven Stables. where he continues his success, resulting in him picking up Champion Trainer twice, in 2012 ans 2015.

Bio: For a man within a Wikipedia entry and with a website that he hasn’t bothered to renew, Evan Williams has a lot going for him!  The Wales based national hunt horse trainer has had a year successful year, and all of this from humble beginnings. Of his first win at Classic trial day at Sandown Park, he mused “They were probably thinking, ‘What’s that silly Welsh farmer doing running one here?’. The horse, Corran Ard, ridden by Mick Kinane, went on to win at 25-1.

Born on Aberogwrn Farm in The Vale of Glamorgan, his career in racing had unlikely beginnings. in 2001, the foot and mouth outbreak effectively put his farm out of business. One year later he was champion point to point trainer (something he’d dipped a toe in previously on account that his parents and grandfathers had a talent for it). He described the time as sink or swim, and can can be no doubting his fighting spirit. Some say it translates to his horses too, as it’s been noted that he’s been able to get results from horses other stables had given up on.

In 2003/4 he earned his trainers license and within 6 months he had a Garde 1 winner (Sunray).  Since that time hundreds of winners have been trained at Aberogwrn Farm and horses placed in 5 consecutive Grand Nationals from 2009 to 2013. In April 2026 Evans received a three years prison setence for an assault on a man he mistook for a lamper, following previous issues on his land with poachers.  This could spell a sad and shcoking end to his career.

Bio: One of the more youthful horse trainers on the scene, Harry Fry, a national hunt trainer, was born in just 1986.  Having applied for his trainers license in 2012 he currently trains at stables in Seaborough in Dorset.

He actually trained from the same stables prior to 2012, under Paul Nicholls. As such his 2012 Champion Hurdle win with Rock on Ruby is officially attirbuted to Nicholls.  In more recent years he’s had impressive wins with Unowhatimeanharry in the Long Walk Hurdle in 2016, and the Champion Stayers Hurdle the following year. He’s had 250+ winners already in his short career, increasing his numbers year on year (both wins and prize money!)

In 2016/17, Fry finished thirteenth in the Trainers’ Championship, with 67 winners and £1 million+ in prize money.
