Mick Channon

 

Bio: Mick Channon career in sport didn’t start in horse racing at all, rather he was a successful professional footballer who played for Southhampton and was capped for England. He was a striker, scoring hundreds of goals during his career.

As if having  anatural ability for one sport wasn’t enough, Channon has proved to have a natural talent for horse training too. Starting working as an assistant horse trainer after he retired from football he went from training 10 horses to 200 in no time, moving to West Ilsley stables near Newbury. By 2002 he’s trained 100+ winners and was both accepted and respected in the racing world. He was the real deal.

In 2012 he had a Classics winner when Samitar won the Irish 1000 Guineas. He’s also had numerous group one wins over the years including Piccolo in the King’s Stand Stakes in 1995 and Tobougg in the Dewhurst Stakes in 2000, as well as soime big wins abroad.

Michael Bell

 

Bio: Michael Bell is a horse trainer, specialising in horses running over the flat. The talented Jamie Spencer is his main jockey. Bell is based at Newmarket, Suffolk and began training in 1989 and has seen had more than 1000 winners, a not that not many others can state as a claim to fame.

Of course, with such a healthy number of winners, some of those have come at prestigeous events. The most stand out of such for Michael Bell has to be his Epsom Derby win with Motivator in 2005. Another high achiever is Sariska, winner of The Oaks and Irish Oaks. He’s amassed prize money totalling over £24 million so far in his career.

A recent success story for Bell has been Big Orange, the 5-1 winner of the Gold Cup at the 2017 Royal Ascot. Bell had been hoping for a repeat victory in the 2018 race, but injury struck, so the endevour wasn’t to be.

Jeremy Noseda

 

Bio: Jeremy Noseda is a successul UK based horse trainer.  After learning the ropes in serious fashion with John Dunlop followed by five years with John Gosden, Noseda joined Godolphin where he got to train the cream of thr racing crop.

With a wealth of knowledge under his belt he eventually decided to go it alone. After a stint in the states he is now based at the Shalfleet stables in Newmarket. A big breakthrough came in 2006 when Nosedsa had an Irish 2000 Guineas winner in Araafa. Shiortly after Sixties Icon won the St Leger, and is cemented Noseda’s place in racing.

Other noteworthy wins include Soldier’s Tale winning the Golden Jubilee Stakes in 2007, and Wilko winning theBreeders’ Cup Juvenile in the States.

Kevin Ryan

 

Bio: Kevin Ryan is an accomplished horse trainer with a reputation up there with the best of them. Training out of Hambleton, Thisk, since obtaining his training license in 1981 he’s experienced success both at home and abroad with Racing Post Trophy, Prix de l’Abbaye, Prix Du Jockey Club (French Derby) and  Irish Champion Stakes group one wins to name but four.

2005 was the year of his Racing Post Trophy win at Doncaster with Palace Episode, as well as a win for Amadeus Wolf in Middle Park Stakes, his prize money totalled over £1 million for that year alone.

In future years multiple wins in the Ayr Gold Cup followed amongst other high profile successes. His training career wins already total over 1500, the vast majority of which have been on the flat, and so he’s at the top of his game with no sign of relenting!
