Alan King
Bio: Alan King is a national hunt and flat horse trainer, who is based at Barbury Castle stables near Wroughton, Wiltshire. He sells himself as a ‘dual-purpose racehorse trainer’ though it was to be said that he mainly gets his results from the jumps.
His introduction to racing came as assistant trainer to David Nicholson until his retirement at which time he acquired a training license for himself. it proved to be a good decision as in 2016/17 alone he had 104 winners over the jumps and £1.4 million in prize money (as well as 19 winners over the flat and £260,00 in prize money).
Big Cheltenham Festival wins for Alan King have been a feature of his career. In the 2006 World Hurdle his horse My Way de Solzen triumphed, in 2007s Voy Por Ustedes won the Queen Mother Champion Chase and in 2008 Katchit won the Champion Hurdle. More recently he won the Ryan Air Chase with Uxizandre.
In recent years, King has continued to maintain a strong presence at the highest level of National Hunt racing, regularly surpassing the century mark in winners in seasons and adding further Grade 1 successes to his record. Horses such as Trueshan—who developed into one of the leading staying performers on the Flat- underlined his dual-purpose credentials, while top hurdlers and chasers have ensured Barbury Castle remains a consistent source of major contenders at Cheltenham, Aintree and beyond.
