Bio: Ben Pauling first took out a training licence, in his own right, in 2013, having worked for six years as assistant trainer to Nicky Henderson in Lambourn, and wasted no time in demonstrating his credentials.

Based at Bourton Hill Farm, near Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, Pauling saddled nine winners in his first season and has steadily increased that total year-by-year.  In 2017/2018, he enjoyed his most successful season, so far, with 36 winners and £396,275 in prize money.

Highlights of his career include victories for Barters Hill in the Challow Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury in 2015 and Willoughy Court in the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2017; the latter was his first and, so far, only, winner at the Cheltenham Festival. Nevertheless, in 2017 Pauling was sent his first horse by leading owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, Delire D’Estruval, who carried their familiar two-tone green colours to victory in novice hurdles at Haydock and Towcester before finishing down the field in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2018.

Standout recent victories include Polydora winning the Grade 2 Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2022 and Zambella claiming the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Trial at Haydock in 2024, highlighting his skill in developing top-class novices. Pauling remains a trainer to watch for future Cheltenham Festival success and has no shortage of wins so far in the 2026 season.
