Bio: Ian Williams is a horse trainer based at Racing Stables situated in the heart of the Midlands. The son of successful jockey, the late  Billy Williams, Ian was hesitant to follow his father, but still had an interest in racing. Consequently he fell into training, and was assistant to Jenny Pitman for a time. From there he moved on to periods with Martin Pipe and Francois Doume, before joining forces with Patrick Kelly to set up Dominion Racing Stables.

Time spend with Francois Doume paid dividends and no doubt eased the way to Williams first Grade 1 winner in the Prix la Haye Jousselin, Batman Senora. Further wins followed and finally noteable Festival success at the Cheltenham Festival in 2016  when Ballyaltonwon the Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase.

With well over 1000 winners, and as a dual purpose trainer, Williams has the distinction of having had a winner at every single UK racecourse. This very balance approach led to prize money of around £450,000 over the jumps, and £600,000 over the flat in 2016/17.

Since that time, Williams has continued to send out winners on both the Flat and over jumps. His aptitude for improving recruits from other yards and campaigning horses internationally has brought further high-profile successes, particularly on the Flat in major staying handicaps and all-weather contests. By the mid-2020s, Dominion Racing Stables remains a force on the British racing scene, with Williams’ riding high to this day in the top trainer ranks.

If the past is any indication of the future, Ian WIlliams has many more wins to come!
